Peak Performer: Will Fahey

“THERE’S NO SLOWING DOWN AS AN ATHLETE.”

Will Fahey started playing sled hockey when he was eight years old and currently plays for the Boston Shamrocks in the Northeast Sled Hockey League, but he had trouble seeing himself continue to perform at higher levels of competition.

“I didn’t know what I was getting myself into,” he said. “This is hard!”

Sled hockey is a sport that designed to allow participants who have physical disabilities to play ice hockey and is one of the most popular sports in the Paralympic Games.

Will has cerebral palsy, a disorder that can affect a person’s movement, balance, and posture. With Will’s diagnosis, his muscles can become extremely tight, causing injury, and in some cases leading to surgeries.

But for the last three years since coming to TB12, Will hasn’t had those problems.

He isn’t here to make excuses. He sees cerebral palsy as an opportunity to show who he really is, and he isn’t slowing down.

“If it weren’t for TB12, I would not be playing sled hockey for 15 years.”
